Primal Pizza

Ingredients:

1 cup water
1/2 cup ghee, grass-fed butter or extra virgin coconut oil (I used the coconut oil)
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 cups tapioca flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup coconut flour  (sifted)

And Toppings of choice

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a medium sauce pan, combine the fat of choice, water and salt and bring to a boil.

Remove from the heat and stir in the garlic and then the tapioca flour. Combine well and let it cool for about 5 minutes.

Next add in the eggs, combining well and then the coconut flour. Knead the dough until it comes together nicely.

Plop the dough onto a parchment lined baking sheet and spread it out with your fingers (I also used a rolling pin)  until it looks like this:

Now place it in the oven for 35 minutes.

The underside should be nice and golden brown.

Next spread out your sauce onto the crust nice and thin.

Then top with cheese and toppings of choice.
Turn your oven to broil and stick the pizza in for about 8 minutes, or until the cheese is nice and browned.

cut into 8 pieces - each piece (without the toppings) comes to: c/22 - s/0

Here I made a 1/2 batch of the crust and sauted some onion, mushroom and green peppers in EVOO first.

**I know if you eat 2 pcs it comes a bit over 2 servings of carbs - But So good and tastes like real pizza dough.

Enjoy!

  2. That looks good! I need to try this since it's gluten free, although I tried to go back on dairy and it didn't go so well so I will have to think of alternate toppings.

  3. How do you feel about tapioca flour, as far as it being a starch? I've often considered trying some paleo/primal baked recipes but have steered clear because of the starch they use.

    1. I saw this recipe a couple weeks ago and hesitated also because of that reason. I see many recipes also that have tapioca and arrowroot flours in them and skip them.
I decided to just go for it and try. It was very good.

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
