Good Food today...

Hello Friends,

I read this statement on one of my healthy sites on Facebook this morning:
I got a lot of comments on this, bu just in case you don't have Facebook, I wanted to share to get your opinions.
"Aside from some extra fiber, eating two slices of whole wheat bread is really little different, and often worse, than drinking a can of sugar-sweetened soda or eating a sugary candy bar."

For all my fellow BFC ' rs or all of us trying to get healthy, You all know me and what type of bread I eat. I only eat Healthy bread. Lately my very Favorite is Alpine Valley 12 grain. It has ONLY 9g carbs, 1g sugar, 46 calories and 2.5g fiber per slice and has a chewy texture and good flavor and even my Hubby LOVES it.

Tell me what you think about that statement.
Do You Agree - or Disagree??

Here's what I ate today.
My breakfast was the Alpine Valley 12 grain toast with my homemade chocolate-hazelnut butter on top, 2 eggs with sauted kale and a bit of cheese and 2 strawberries.  5/1
For me - breakfast usually is the biggest meal. I just love breakfast.

I vacuumed and mopped this morning - what fun - NOT.

I've been good lately and haven't done this for a while, but I had a mini-meltdown while vacuuming. Not for too long - don't worry. I won't get into why - but I was right and that's all everyone needs to know. LOL

So what else is new? I got Middle-heimers and pre-during-or what-the-HECK menopause. So I guess I was do - right?

Lunch: Even Hubby said on his way out the door that it actually looked good and edible to him - LOL
I made 2 cauliflower pancakes with,
I always just eyeball it - I never measure for real anymore - so not exact amounts - OK?
1/2 cup of cauliflower (shredded and steamed a little - like I always do) 1/4 cup of cheese, 1 egg, garlic, red pepper and italian spices, 1 heaping tbsp of coconut flour and 1 tbsp of horse raddish mayo.
Mix together and form 2 pancakes with your hands on the grill, then heat to 250-300 and brown on both sides. Easy-Peasy and a great alternative to bread.

I topped them with 1 slice of turkey, avocado, a little horse raddish mayo, bacon bits and onion crunch. 2/1
BTW - This was SOOO GOOD!!

Hubby has been working a TON and right now its nights again.
I really-REALLY want to go see the Conjuring. But I promised him I would wait when he can go with me. I told him - its gonna be too scary for him -  but he thinks he can handle it. We'll see - ha-ha.
I keep reading comments where people say it's by far the scariest movie they have seen. If it actually scares ME - (which they never do) then it actually is SCARY.

Yesterday before me and my furry girls went for a walk - I gave Peaches a bath outside with some medicated doggy shampoo so she could dry during the walk. Hopefully it will help with the itchy-allergic bumps she keeps getting. I seriously can't afford all this medicine from the vet. They are so nice over there. They email and text me for appointments and even call me at home the next day to see how my dogs are doing. WHAT?? My other vet never did that - EVER!

The girls and I went for our walk and my dinner was just a spinach salad. And after for desert I had a few bites of Clemmys and 2 BFC thin-mint cookies. I still have 3 of those and 3 of the other ones in the freezer.

OK - Good Night All.

This is PurpleRosy signing off...

Keep on BFC ' n  :-)

  1. I'm sorry you had a melt down, but I think they are healthy to relieve whatever is on your mind.
Let me know what you think of the movie!
Oh, and I used to tell people that having a granola bar was just like having a candy bar and a vitamin. I guess I may be guilty too!

  2. As to your question about the bread ... I bet that comment was made by the "Wheat Belly" fanatics who think the wheat of today is not the wheat that our ancestors ate. Hate to break it to you people but NOTHING we eat is the food that our ancestors ate. Fruit and vegetables would be almost non-existent today thanks to so many insects and molds. If it weren't for all of the things that are used to kill all these things, food as we know it would be harder and harder to get and the prices would be even more ridiculous than they are already.

My opinion is, if you eat whole grain breads and not the white, totally void of nutrients stuff, you are doing far better than drinking sugared soda or eating a candy bar. In my humble opinion, there is really no comparison.

OK ... off my soapbox now :-/

Menopause and peri-menopause are terrific for causing meltdowns. I know you felt better when you had it out of your system. You are TOTALLY allowed!!

Have a great rest of your week, Rosalie. :)

  3. Hi Rosalie! Have you thought about giving peaches coconut oil. I remember reading that it is good for pets and this article says it helps itch, allergic sort of stuff.http://nutiva.com/articles/healthy-dogs-use-coconut-oil/
I can't get the Alpine Valley here. It would cost 112 dollars to ship a case of it! I have been using the Alvarado Street Flax seed bread. I really like it. Two slices have 100 calories, 18 gms of carbs and 1 sugar, plus 5 g of fiber. So it's pretty close to your bread, but only .5gm of sugar per slice which is even better. Let me know if you try the coconut oil! XO!

  4. I think the only way you could really answer that question that you posted would be to test your blood after eating both the candy bar and the wheat bread (of course at different time.) Most people aren't willing to make the test (me included at this time) so they won't know for sure. I think everyone's body reacts to all different kinds of foods differently, and some people might be able to eat bread/wheat and others may not be able to.

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
