Read Your Labels...

Good Morning Friends,

Well the insurance adjuster came out on Monday after the accident on Sunday of Hubby's, and he said the car is totaled. Oh Geeze! So now they are supposed to pick up the car today-Wednesday (he had it towed to our house - remember)?  The trunk is in the front of his car and he had a ton of stuff in the trunk and can't get it open. So I guess we have to follow them to the place where they are gonna junk it to and have them pry it open when the car gets there and get his stuff.

SO - Maybe its my hormones or something but, some things have been irritating me. First the email that Jorge sent out the other day talking about HIS - Skinny Muffin!! I am not sure why - but it really got me upset. I know he totally stole the idea from someone who posted it on his wall and we have all been eating this for a while now. And the fact that he said you can lose 80lbs of fat by eating that! Is it just me?? I got pissed - sorry.

Now I know for you new people on the BFC, it might be easier to ask everyone else everything, but I feel it is very important to learn how to read labels and know what you are putting in your body by yourself.

Read the label of everything you eat and see for yourself how much S/C it has. Also check thru the ingredients and make sure it does not have belly bad stuff in it. They always SNEAK in the bad Sucralose near the end somewhere!! So read thru all of it and make sure.

Don't take someone else's word for it that something is BFC friendly because they said they eat it. Check the label yourself and make sure before you eat it.

When you are trying to figure out what the S/C is in what you are eating, add everything together from your meal to get the accurate total. EVERYTHING, even sauces. And make sure you don't ever go over 5/2 per meal.

When you are trying to figure out the S/C value in something you made or cooked or baked: add all the S/C values together and divide it up into how many servings there is in the dish. Figure it out before you make it or eat it.

If you don't know what S/C or 5/2 is - well then you need to get the book. He really explains the whole premise of this eating plan a lot better than I can. Start with the original Belly Fat Cure book and get the Fast Track if you want (it has good recipes), The Quick meals book is good if you go out a lot and myself and some of us other girls are in it He-He. But honestly - you can learn how to figure that stuff yourself.

There are a few things that might help;
I use this app called: Calorie Counter on my Droid phone, but I know some of you also use My Fitness Pal too. There is a website called NutritionData.com that will also help you find out how much S/C is in many foods. But remember that YOUR label of your stuff is the real count when at home.

Here's what I ate yesterday;
Breakfast, flaxseed muffin and turkey bacon and berries.
Lunch, cauliflower crust pizza w/pesto sauce, cheese, turkey sausage crumbles, mushrooms and cut-up jalapeno olives.
snack; a handful of almonds.

dinner; wings and broccoli and 4 brussel sprouts and for desert; 2 squares of 86% lindt dark chocolate and RediWhip in a bowl.

So Melody in Oregon says she hates eggs and needs some suggestions?? I LOVE eggs so I am not sure how much help I am. Lots of stuff we cook and bake has eggs. Jump in people if you know how to subb for them.

Thanks for listening. Lots of Big Hugs to all.

This is PurpleRosy signing off...

My thought for the day:

Never Too Late

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Keep on BFC ' n  :-)

  1. Hi, Rosalie,

Don't let Jorge get you down. I think he really cares but he also really cares about his business, too. That can be hard to swallow for those who have learned most from the blogs and certainly found their inspiration.

What I always love about you is that you are not a blind follower. You challenge us all.

As for Jorge, I just am grateful his book lead me to "I think I can do that" and to your blog.

    Keep smiling.

    Tony.

  2. Here Here! I totally agree read your labels take things into your own hands...I am so glad that Jorge's book lead me to find your blog. I am enjoying my journey and you have helped me so much already Rosalie. Thank you.

  3. I agree that people need to start figuring out s/c for themselves instead of asking. Not that I mind saying the s/c value, but the only way you learn it is to do it. Yes, I sound like a mom, lol! Anyway, I would rather know the total sugar and carbs of things so I can do my s/c count for the whole meal, not just a piece of it. So much of it is so subjective anyway depending on the brand and other add-ins.
As for Jorge....being a food blogger, I can say there are SO few original ideas. The general rule in the food blogging community is if you tweak something and give a unique description, it can be counted as yours. If you slightly tweak a spice, you can use it as your as long as you state it is slightly adapted from "_____". I don't think this minute muffin is original and I don't think you would ever be able to track down who really started it. I know, I first saw it in a Atkins book like 15 years ago.
It does just bug though when people don't think for themselves and don't look at the flipping ingredient labels...I think the bigger thing is that people who don't feel like they have control over their lives (and weight) are waiting for someone to tell them specifically everything...then if it doesn't work out, it isn't their fault. Dunno, just my opinion, LOL!

  4. I understand your frustration, but business is business and Jorge is running a business-ugh. I agree with the others who have posted already, so glad I saw the book and it lead me to your and Amber's blog. I thumbed through the book at a homeowners meeting, (we meet in someone's condo since we are such a small complex). I was so intrigued that the owner of the book & condo said I could borrow it. I've been enjoying eating great food ever since and my clothes are getting bigger and bigger! :)

  5. I love that you are so committed to doing what he right, but as one that doesn't totally follow, I have to do what is a lifetime for me.
I agree with Tony, Jorge is a for profit business. He has to find more and more ways to make his name known so that others can follow his lifestyles and he can make himself relevant and make a living. Every single person that comes out with a new or better diet, uses things from other diets that they agree with. The muffin doesn't bug me at all, but him advocating 2 glasses of wine a day, does:)
I LOVE that you are so passionate about the BFC. I truly respect you for that. You are a GREAT role model and should be very proud of yourself! I am very proud of you:)

  6. I'm with ya, Rosalie! I'm happy that this is a plan (finally) that I can stick with, and I count everything that goes into my mouth. I may not be technical with it (I use a pen and paper to tabulate every carb and every sugar) but I get it done ;) I'll talk more about Jorge when we meet for lunch on Saturday. I just feel that it's polite to acknowledge where you find a recipe, even if you tweak it. I don't know who originally founded or created the flax min. muffin, but I always credit that I found it on the Wheat Belly!

  7. yup, ya gotta read your labels. Especially because every brand is different. I even will change my recipes around if I use a different brand with lightly different numbers.

  8. I'm learning Rosalie. I do read every label now. I was very excited over some of your products you buy yourself...that is until I read the label and found sugar. I'm still learning where and how to budget my carbs...and I'm not willing to go there yet. With that said...the frustation is mounting for me and hubby. Neither of us lost any weight last week. I'm hoping hubby won't give up. ~melody in oregon~

  9. I hear ya! That Skinny Muffin has been around a LONG time...I first saw it over a year ago on the Atkins website ~ called a MIM (Muffin In a Minute). There are many, many variations of it on their site. I think Jorge changed it up only by using coconut oil instead of butter...just sayin' ;-)

Thanks for all you do!! xoxo

  10. Reading labels is SO important. After almost a year of doing this, I still stand in the grocery store and read labels on new things I want to try!

  11. Hi Rosalie,
Can you help me? I have been doing the BFC for 2 months. I don't have a lot to lose but I need to lose about 25 pounds (I think it is a lot). I keep losing the same feew pounds week after week. My total is 7 pounds. I go down and up. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Could I be eating too much protein. I eat eggs with a little cheese and a tortilla for breakfast. Lunch is usually tuna or chicken on a pita or tortilla. Sometimes with an avacado or a string cheese. I eat walnuts for a snack and my dinner I eat lots of protein, sometimes a carb and vegetables. I am very good about sticking to the 5/2. I am the only one who can not lose weight on this diet. I make sure I am getting in my fiber. What can I do?

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
