If anyone needs any help, post your questions  or comments and we will all do our best to help.
Yesterday Mary asked if anyone knows how to convert splenda to stevia in a recipe? I am not sure but you can start by tasting both maybe in a cup of coffee and see if there is a sweetness difference. But I would think the same. Does anyone know for sure?

I want to congratulate everyone who lost weight last week. It is such a great feeling when we work so hard and it starts to pay off. Lets give a welcome to both Sues and Mary and Carol for joining our year end goal list to the right. Please - lets support each other!

I just wanted to talk about all the hidden artificial sweeteners in foods. Usually if something says sugar free or low fat, always look at the back of the label and look at the ingredients first.
If it says:
Stevia of course that is a natural sweetener from a plant and allowed.
Xylitol or Maltitol are allowed and are sugar alcohols and are counted under the carbs.
If it says:
Sucralose, Saccharin, or aspartame, those are artificial sweeteners and not allowed on The Belly Fat Cure.

I spent lots and lots of time looking at labels. I found that usually if the label says fat free or low fat usually it has more sugars and carbs in it than the regular.

You have to make a choice now when buying foods where you want to get those 15 sugars a day from. We have to choose what we have to give up. Sometimes I don't want to waste my 3-4 sugars on 1 thing.  also try to pick foods that have the most fiber in them. So sometimes I choose a smart and delicious wheat tortilla instead of a piece of ezekeil bread, it has more fiber.

I really don't want to talk about my weight today. I am starting my monthly again. I am 51, going to be 52 in January and wondering when this will stop. Whaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Well thanks for listening. Don't forget to support all the other BFC blogs on the list below. Much love to all my BFC friends. Please leave your comments.

My thought for the day;

The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet.

Keep on BFC ' n  :-)

  1. Welcome to all the new year end goal members! I don't know much about cooking with alternative sweeteners. What I can tell you is that when I've tried using erythritol in place of sugar in a couple of recipes, and we didn't like the result. It leaves an "off" cooling flavor/sensation in your mouth. The cooling sensation would not be so bad if the "off" flavor did not accompany it. With each bite, the flavor got worse, almost like it just built up with each bite. I haven't tried using stevia as a substitute because the difference in volume is so much that I wouldn't know what to do about that. If it's a recipe where volume doesn't matter, I will sometimes use it, but at that point it's up to personal preference as to how sweet somebody likes their food. I think only time and personal experience will help in those instances.

I'm down 3 lbs. this week leaving me at 142 lbs.

  2. Oh, and a high five to all the "losers" this week!!! Hang in there if you didn't have a loss. Rosalie is a great example of that. She was stuck at 180 lbs. for a long time and recently her body started dropping weight again because she remained consistent.

  3. I was furious, my son went to a health food store sold him a product with sucrolose and they told him sucrulose is a healthy organic food, and they don't return products. Guess what, he's on his way not to exchange it for another product without sweetners.

  4. Ugh Sue...sorry for your frustration!
@ Rosalie... My body didn't stop until it was 52..it's now been a year. Before that was 3 months off and then a period...6 months off and then a period...that went on for almost 2 years. So hang in there...it WILL happen. I think I have said before that I take one Estroven Energy every day. It has helped stop my hot flashes completely! YaY to all the losers! and Howdy to all our Newbies! I'm one of those stuck ones...but that's ok...cuz I'm feeling great and know that it will come off in due time! Love You ALL!!!

  5. thanks for the infor everyone. I will just have to experiment with truvia, stevia, but surely not erythritol if you had that problem. I still like my sweets on occasion and especially when my monthly fun comes around, or even when it doesn't but is supposed to. Rosalie, hang in there. Having a monthly at least means that you don't have to worry about osteoporosis yet and all those health issues that women have to deal with when they no longer get a cycle.

  7. If the Splenda in your recipe is granular Splenda, it measures cup for cup like sugar. So, if you're trying to replace Splenda with Truvia, for example, you can use this handy calculator at the Truvia website to convert the amounts of Splenda to Truvia.

    http://www.truvia.com/recipes/conversion-chart/default.aspx

If your recipe calls for Splenda PACKETS, it's trickier, but the Splenda site has a guide for converting the packets to granular, which you can then convert to Truvia.

    Hope this helps!

  8. I'm new to your blog... well, blogging in general (I've been more of an observer) but your blog has inspired me. I would like to join your year end goal. I started 1-1-10 at 267lbs/currently 228.4lbs/ambitious year end goal of 200lbs. Thanks for the support!

  9. Good point about the fat free on labels Rosalie, after all a 5 pound bag of sugar is 100% fat free but I wouldn't want to eat one for lunch lol!

Its so amazing how our taste for sweets changes on the BFC. I tried to eat a handful of Kettle Corn at our church festival, and I almost threw up. It tasted like pure sugar.

  10. Congratulations to all the losers this week....I am meaning weight loss lol. Anyway thanks Rosalie for pointing out my blunder. I was so happy to have found a low carb protein bar that tasted good. I did not realize it had sucralose in it. I just saw sugar acohols listed and thought yeah I can eat those. Boy what you dont realize unless you read the labels. I guess I will keep looking for something new.

  11. I've been following the BFC now since July 1, and picked up my first little bottle of Stevia last week. Good thing it was a little bottle because it taste just like an "artificial sweetener" to my taste buds and I really don't like it enough to add it to anything. I'll keep my Dark Chocolate and Mac Nuts! Can you please add my name to the list. July 1 188 and now Sept.28 175lb. How do I get followers to a blog I started? It's on blogger.com and the title is called, It's a Cruise to be Thin. Love your blog and thank you for sharing!

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
