Saturday of week 15: the Belly Fat Cure

I went to the movies today with my hubby. We saw Iron Man 2. It was great by the way. I had popcorn, I always do when I go to the movies. The difference now is, I don't use butter and I don't eat candy. I miss milk Duds. Boo Hoo. :-(

Tomorrow we are going over to my mother in-laws house.  I don't know what we are supposed to eat, but I know that I can control myself now. My appetite is less than half of what it used to be. I can't wait to weigh my self every day. I told my husband - when I get to 200lbs, we are going out to eat Chili Cheese Fries. My favorite!! But the problem is I probably will just eat a few and give the rest to him. I just want to taste them. Lets get REAL!! A few bites will not kill me! The fries (in moderation) and cheese are ok, just not the chili.

Well thanks for listening. Please leave your comments

My thought for today: I'm gonna have to break down soon and buy some new pants. I look like a bum. Baggy!!

Keep on BFC ' n  :-)

  1. Wouldn't the butter on the popcorn slow the digestion - hence not spike your insulin/blood glucose?

Thanks for the heads up on Ironman.

  2. Also, the butter would keep you satisfied longer - and it tastes better.

  3. Your doing great! Your an inspiration to all of us! How about rewarding yourself with a new outfit instead of the french fries? If you want french fries with cheese have them, but not just for a reward.

  4. make your own chili. it's easy and BFC approved. hamburger or turkey, beans, chicken broth, onions, spices. nothing wrong with those. great job on your progress.

  5. I'm also curious about the popcorn. I've done Sugar Busters, been very successful, and learned that popcorn was high glycemic. So I don't eat it. But I like it. I'll need to look at Jorge's food list to see what he says about popcorn. I'm not much on moderation; sort of an all or nothing girl. But if I take a little sandwich bag and fill it with popcorn from the tub, I might be able to limit my intake. Thanks for your updates! They do keep me going!!!! Congrats on all your hard work!

  6. Determined mom - Popcorn has a high Glycemic Index but, a low Glycemic Load. Here is a link:

Of course, one has to watch out for the serving size. I just got BFC book so, I can't remember how many carbs per meal/snack Jorge suggests. As with any meal fat/fiber helps slow digestion which stops the blood glucose/insulin spike. Protein in moderate amounts also help to keep one satiated.

This is why most are hungry shortly after eating a breakfast of say cereal and OJ. It's a sugar rush with quick digestion. If anyone has carbohydrate metabolism issues (like myself, T2 diabetic/insulin resistance) then that sugar has nowhere to go. The body stores it as fat. This is why many T2 diabetics with insulin resistance are overweight. This is also why low carb diets or even lower carb diets like BFC work so well. The lower fat diets of the 80s really only work for those without metabolism issues and most of them don't have major weight problems.

I was able to lose quite a bit of weight on a low carb diet but the best thing is after years of doing low fat diets, that failed me, I was able to lower my triglycerides, cholesterol, A1c and blood pressure to normal levels and that was before most of the weight came off.

Now, I seem to get better blood sugar reading eating small amounts of high fiber carbs with my meals. This is why BFC is appealing to me. It's not as low carb as say Atkins and not high carb like the ADA diet (ironic considering the ADA is there to help diabetics)

These BFC blogs are a real inspiration!

Sorry for the long post. I'm a little passionate about diabetes, carbs and blood sugar. LOL

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
