Is the BFC Healthy or not??

Hello Everyone,

OK so my sister, the nurse, has been Bashing the Belly Fat Cure ever since I started it way over 2 years ago. She is always saying that I don't eat healthy and I don't eat enough carbs and that is why I am so tired all the time. She thinks I am focused on being SKINNY more than healthy.

I have no idea where she gets that from except for the fact that she is a nurse and she thinks she knows everything. Even though I have managed to lose 90lbs successfully and keep it off - she still says that stuff to me all the time.

She says I don't eat enough sugar or carbs and that it is not a healthy way of eating. Do you all remember last year when I had my blood work done?? Everything came out great.

She sent me this link to an article reviewing the BFC: http://www.eatright.org/Media/content.aspx?id=10460
I read it and I understand her concerns and do see some of the points that it is talking about.

Here is another review I found: http://www.fitsugar.com/Explanation-Review-Belly-Fat-Cure-Jorge-Cruise-9027078
  • Lose 4-9lbs a week: This will never happen except for maybe the first 2 weeks. Besides it's much healthier to lose it slowly like I did.
  • You don't have to exercise: I think you need some form of exercise - even if its just walking fast like I do every day. If you don't - you will wind up real loose and giggly.
  • Eating lots of meats: I tend to eat healthier meats like more chicken, turkey, and fish. I might order beef when I am out as a treat.
  • Eating lots of cheese and eggs: I do eat eggs and cheese almost every day, but try to not over do it. I try to balance out what I eat. Don't eat a ton of any 1 thing.
  • You don't have to calorie count: I don't really count my calories, but I do look at and watch them in what I eat. I look at the labels for the S/C values when buying stuff and also the calories. I try to choose the one with the least amount of Sugar, carbs, and calories.
  • No more fruit: I thought I would miss fruits, but I do eat blackberries, blueberries and raspberries just about every morning with my breakfast and don't miss the rest.
  • The Menus in his books: I NEVER followed any of his menus in the books. I used the info in his book to understand the concept of the BFC, and always did my own thing. I made sure to never go over 5/2 per meal and never ate grain carbs w/my dinner, and tried to always be done w/my dinner by 7pm.
  • Portion sizes: I never understood Jorge's idea of portion - it should fit into the palm of your hand he says. I ate what I thought was appropriate - but not like I did before, but as you go along - your appetite will decrease and you won't want to eat as much as you used to.
  • No artificial sweeteners: Many different studies have proven that this is correct. No artificial sweeteners any more of any kind like aspartame and sucralose. That means no more diet sodas, or equal or splenda products.
I have said this many times before, Don't be a lemming. Don't do something just because someone else that is famous or anyone for that matter says to do without investigating and checking it out yourself first.

Do your own homework. Don't ask other people for the answers - find it yourself just so you can be really sure that something is healthy and right for you.

I don't drink 2 glasses of wine a day like Jorge says its OK to. As someone who lost 90lbs - I can tell you that won't happen if you drink 2 glasses of wine every day!! Save it for once in a while special occasions or if you go out to eat. Any Alcohol is fattening and will effect your weight loss.

I take many vitamins everyday and there is a list on (Fav Products page), so that if there is something I am lacking in my food  - I get it that way. Reslina is a great supplement! I also put Benefiber in my morning coffee and take 2 pro-biotics daily to help with the fiber thing.

I am VERY HEALTHY and feel great!!

This has to be something that you see yourself doing permanently. For the Rest of Your Life!!Keep in mind -  Once you lose  the weight, you can NEVER go back to the way you ate before or you will just gain it all back.

OK that's my class for today. I hope this helps for all you new people starting the Belly Fat Cure.

Remember this is only my view and opinion so if you don't agree, share below in the comment section and let us all know what and why..

Thanks for listening to me today - Lots of love to you all.

This is PurpleRosy signing off...

My thought for the day:

All Things Change

When you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to.
Keep on BFC ' n  :-)

  1. Oh, brother! There's always going to be someone who disagrees. You're definitely eating healthier than you did before. I don't know how she can complain about how you eat now. If you're tired, it likely has more to do with a food sensitivity that you don't realize you have rather than the diet itself. I'm telling you, as I have removed foods that I have a sensitivity to, that I had NO IDEA I was even sensitive to, my energy level has sky rocketed.

  4. I've been following you for a year and have done BFC most of that time. At first I lost weight and then had to keep cutting more and more carbs. I became exhausted. I had no energy whatsoever. I read Jay Robb's book, "Fat Burning Diet" and he had tried both a low carb diet and a low fat (high carb) diet. With the low carb eventually he says you are exhausted because your body needs carbs for energy. With the low fat diet you are hungry all the time. His alternative was to eat low carb one day and high carb (healthy carbs) the next day. He says you keep your energy and can still lose fat. He would help people build up their bodies for weight lifting and then help them get the fat off so they only had 5% body fat. You lose fat instead of water. I have been trying it and it goes slowly like the BFC, but I do not have as much body fat. He also recommended doing strength training on low carb days and walking or aerobics on high carb days.
I saw Dr. Oz talk about low carb diets one day and he said that if that is the way that you can get it off, the benefits of getting it off outweigh some of the risks. I have read that it is hard on a person to be on a low carb diet for long periods of time.
    Just some thoughts...

  5. I think with any diet it can be healthy or unhealthy it has to do with what we eat. With the BFC you can choice to eat unhealthy things like bacon or high fat foods that I think are not the best but like you, can choose to eat the healthier foods. Just have to do what is right for you and dont let what other people say get under your skin.

  7. Hi Rosie - I'm surprised she said you should eat more sugar! Your posts are really inspiring to me. I love that you share things like your bras! So I wanted to share something with you. I rarely used to wear skirts because when I wore nylons or tights my legs would rub together and create a painful rash. Well I am in the chorus in a musical and have lost 20 pounds since January. I wore nylons last night for my show and it didn't happen! Of course I love how I look after losing but some of the little things like this make me SO happy. Could you update my weight? I am now 155. Thanks! Kari

  8. I just got my blood work back and am able to compare it with my tests just a week before I started BFC. I was a little nervous because a lot of the BFC goes against what we have been told about cholesterol our whole lives. It was all greatly improved and I'll post about it when I have more time. There is NO WAY anyone could say you aren't healthier now than you were 2 years ago - that is insane! Just look at you and the smile on your face...

  9. You had me until the wine part! Hahaha! You know me and my wine. I like this lifestyle because I enjoy my wine and it allows it. Maybe if you have a lot of weight to lose, you shouldn't drink wine because it will take extra time to take the weight off, but it really hasn't affected me too much. I'm sure I'd lose more weight and get into a size 4 if I stopped the wine, but then I wouldnt be enjoying what I love so I'll be happy with my wine and my size 6 jeans (which need to be a size 4 but they didn't make them in that size ;). Hope you don't find this contradictory (not trying to be) just trying to find what works best for me and my crazy hectic life.

PS-My bloodwork was worse than before the BFC, but that's because I haven't been exercising/walking as much as I used to (work.....ugggghhh!) I've also stopped the bacon and mostly eat lower fat meats and cheeses that fit into the program.

  10. I read all this information two years ago but couldn't wrap my head around it either. It is going against everything we've always been told. Then I read Gary Taubes' book, "Why We Get Fat". If you haven't read it you really should. It gives a lot of scientific evidence to support what you're doing as being healthier. You can also read his article from the NY Times if you want a shorter read. I think your sister should read it :)

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
