So Here's my Dilemma....

Hello Fellow BFC Listeners,

I really don't know what has been wrong with Blogger the past 2 days, but all the comments disappeared and I have not been able to get on here.

OK - well I will start with what I ate yesterday:
breakfast; 2 scrambled eggs w/mushrooms, yellow onion, some turkey sausage bites, cheese, avocado, 2 slices of toast w/butter and natures hollow peach preserves.
lunch; we went to Chipotle again and I had a salad w/lettuce, black beans, spicey shredded beef, sour cream, cheese, guacamole.

Then hubby said, lets go to the movies and we saw: Jump the Broom. It was very good, I had some popcorn, no butter.

When we got home it was too late for me to eat, but I had some RediWhip and 2 squares of Lindt 85% dark chocolate and a piece of cheese.

Today, Friday, breakfast; 2 eggs, cheese, avocado, 2 turkey bacon, 2 oasis bread w/butter and peanut butter, 8 blackberries.
lunch; 3 chicken strips and salad at Chic-fil-a.

Remember when I went to the doctors and had all that blood work done? Well I asked the doctor about this pain I am having in my right foot.

Ever since I lost all this weight I wanted to wear all those cute shoes with the heals now. But when I wear some real high ones my right foot near the joint on the big toe hurts. The doctor said oh you have a Bunion. I said OH - Whats a bunion? She said it involves surgery to get rid of it and referred me to a podiatrist.

So this morning I went to see him. He said I have form of degenerative arthritis called Hallux Rigidus. He said he would make an incision on my big toe and shave off the bone spur that in on the joint. Well that's no problem - EXCEPT..... He said I won't be able to go for my walks for 6 weeks to 2 months, and I can't wear any heal or even wedges for 1 whole YEAR!!

So he put me on a waiting list and said it might be 1-2 months. I thought that was great so I could discuss w/hubby and think about it.

So then I went to the nail salon and had my gel nails and pedicure done.

So while I was there - guess who calls me??? GO on Guess.....

The doctors office calls me and says they have an opening next week ...GULP !!! I asked her to call me back on Monday so I could discuss w/hubby and ponder.

So there is my dilemma. Do I do it and not wear heals for 1 year and no walk for maybe 3 months - or not do it and wear the shoes and keep on truckin????/

Thanks for listening. Love to all. Please leave your comments, and don't forget to visit all my friends blogs on the list below.

My thought for the day:

My will shall shape the future. Whether I fail or succeed shall be no man’s doing but my own. I am the force. I can clear any obstacle before me or  can be lost in the maze. My choice, my responsibility. Win or lose, only I hold the key to my destiny.

Keep on BFC ' n  :-)

  1. My mom had something like that done on one of her toes and it was terribly painful,I am afraid that I would just keep wearing what you wear now and be happy, otherwise its going to be a long slow process to get back to what you have now and what you can do now.Just my thoughts.Wendy

  2. If it just started bothering you, I may hold off awhile. Several of the gals at my gym had it done. Most of them lived with it as long as they could. If it is so painful that you can't walk now, that's your answer!
You have a Chik fi la? I have only eaten there when I visited my daughter in NC. We don't have them hear, which may be a good thing. It was heavenly!!!

  3. I had foot surgery a few years ago... it was a very painful experience and took 3 months to recover from. I gained weight after that since I couldn't walk or do much exercize. If I could go back in time I'd wait until it was unbearable. My suggestion is to wait and wear comfortable shoes. By the way, please change my current weight to 224 :-)
    Thanks, Ru

  4. First of all, I would get a second opinion from another podiatrist. Don't let the fact that this doctor has an unexpected opening rush you into something that you have not fully thought through. What will happen if you do not have the surgery, will you have increasing pain over time? What the sucess rates of this surgery, will it definitely alleviate your pain? Can you talk with anyone else who has had this surgery? If so, maybe you can aske them about the recovery process. I would ask all these questions and anything else that makes sense to you before deciding. Wishing you the very best Rosalie!

  5. I have known people that have had bunion surgery and besides it being very painful the bunion growes back over time. I would google it on why you got the bunion in the first place the then go from there.

  6. I agree with most of the posts. I would wait a bit, if it only bothers you when you wear really high heels. If you can still wear a wedge heel, or lower heel without problems, then wait for sure. Also I agree about a second opinion. There are lots of podiatrists out there, and it can't hurt to hear what another one says. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

  7. Research, research, research! lol. I would definately make sure that you are well informed before under going surgery . Further, I would also make sure you assess the risks of waiting to have it done. Sometimes these things can progress to the point where it makes the surgery more difficult etc. If you elect to go ahead and have it, make sure you have another plan for exercising...they have many routines for people who cannot bear wieght on one foot. Good luck sweetie!

  8. This is what Esther said:

    Hi R,
I just read your "toe issue".

I use to wear heels here and there to work up until I went hiking/walking for 5 hours (it was to be a 1-1/2 hour walk/hike) I got lost and didn't have the proper shoes I think to begin with.

Long story short: I have what I think people call "toe turf"??? (I forgot what the podgiest called it). He said it had to do with arthritis around that area of my foot. It's the one next to my big toe. Anyway, I opt out of any surgical procedure (I am that way with most opinions from the Western doctors) I usually get my diagnosis from them and then I march over to my Eastern doctors and get treated accordingly. I have had gall stones, disk protrusion and my toe issues treated with acupuncture, chinese herb teas, etc etc.
Losing weight definitely helped the issue with the disk protrusion.

I am comfortable wearing flat shoes as I am very active at work and there are nice flat COMFORTABLE shoes to dress up an outfit.

I will wear at times a "pump shoe" on a special special occasion that will not require being on my feet more than a couple of hours.

I rather enjoy my cycling, hiking, walking, light jogging, (health) than have surgery anytime!!! (that's my personal opinion).

In other words I get down to causes and conditions of the issue and see how I can treat it. I research everything that I am diagnosis with before undergoing surgery.

Put it out there to the universe and mediate on this at least over the weekend and talk with your hubby. Write out the pros/cons of this issue and see what you come away with.
    Good Luck!!!

    Peace,
    E

Some tips if you are having trouble

  • First make sure that you are staying under the 15/6. 15 sugars and 6 servings of carbs for the whole day. Thats no more than 5 sugars and 2 servings of carbs per meal.
  • Track all of your sugar/carbs. Add everything from your meal together and count them that way.
  • Try to stop eating whole grain carbs after 3pm.
  • Make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Count everything that you put into your mouth. Even sauces - everything , check labels.
  • Make sure that you don't eat any artificial sugars. Check labels, if it says sugar free - look in the ingredients, look for....sucralose, aspartame, saccharine in the ingredients. Those are BAD!
  • Going #2 is a big problem when a lot of people start the BFC. I have solved that problem with Clear Benefiber in my morning coffee and a scoop of Super Seed w/water in the afternoon. (you can buy the super seed on Amazon.com it is the cheapest).
  • Choose your carbs wisely. Try to pick the carbs that will give you the lowest count of carbs, sugar and calories and the most fiber.

I hope this helps.
